Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers from the crew. If you don't see your question here, call (508) 641-4529 and we'll sort it out.

General

What areas does Southern Nevada Leak Detection serve?

We cover the entire Las Vegas Valley and Clark County: Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Summerlin, Spring Valley, Paradise, Enterprise, Boulder City, and the surrounding communities. If you're within about a 45-minute drive of the strip, we can be at your pool.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We carry Nevada contractor licensing and full liability insurance. Documentation is available on request before any work begins.

Are you really owner-operated?

Yes. Nick and Kevin own the company, and one of them is on every job. You won't get a different sub-contractor each visit. The same crew that detects your leak handles the repair.

How quickly can you respond to a leak call?

Most homes inside the valley get a same-week appointment, and we keep slots open for severe water-loss emergencies. Call before noon on a weekday and we'll do everything we can to get out the same day.

Do you provide free quotes?

Quotes for repairs, equipment work, and underground plumbing are always free. Leak detection itself is a paid diagnostic, but we give you the price upfront before scheduling.

Do you handle commercial pools?

Yes. We service residential pools and spas, HOA and condo communities, hotels, resorts, and commercial spas across the valley.

Pool Leak Detection

How do I know if my pool actually has a leak?

The Las Vegas climate causes significant evaporation. Pools commonly lose ¼ to ½ inch per day in summer just to heat and dry air. If you're losing more than that, or losing water consistently year-round, you likely have a leak. The bucket test is the easiest first check: float a bucket of pool water on a step and compare evaporation rates over 24 hours.

How do you find a leak without draining the pool?

We combine pressure testing, electronic listening equipment, dye testing, and camera inspection. The pool stays full for nearly every detection. Draining is rare and only used as a last resort.

How long does a leak detection take?

Most detections take one to two hours on site. Complex cases with multiple leaks or underground plumbing involvement can take longer, but we'll flag that early in the visit so there are no surprises.

What if you can't find the leak?

We're up front about scope before we start. On the rare occasion a leak is hidden in a way our standard methods can't catch, we'll tell you what additional steps would be required (and the cost) before doing them. We don't bill for diagnostics we can't deliver on.

Can a leak really be in the plumbing and not the pool itself?

Yes. Underground plumbing leaks are some of the most common in older Vegas-area pools. The pool shell can be perfectly intact while a buried PVC line slowly bleeds water for months.

Pool Leak Repair

Can you repair the leak the same day you find it?

Often yes for surface, skimmer, return-line, and fitting repairs. Underground plumbing leaks and jobs requiring excavation are typically scheduled separately so we can stage the right parts and crew.

Do you warranty your repair work?

Yes. All repairs carry a workmanship warranty. If the repair fails, we come back at no charge. Specifics depend on the repair type and are spelled out in writing.

What types of pool leaks do you repair?

Skimmer leaks, return line leaks, main drain leaks, light niche leaks, structural cracks, tile-line leaks, equipment-side leaks, and underground plumbing leaks.

Will I have to drain my pool for the repair?

Most repairs are done with the pool full. Some structural and tile-line repairs require a partial drain, and we'll always tell you in advance what will be needed and why.

How long do pool leak repairs last?

A correctly diagnosed and properly executed repair should outlast the surrounding plumbing. The most common reason a "repair" fails is that the original detection missed a second leak, which is why we test each line independently before calling a job complete.

Spa Leaks

Are spa leaks harder to find than pool leaks?

Spas pack more plumbing, jets, and equipment into a smaller footprint, which can make leaks trickier to localize, but the same detection techniques apply. We detect spa leaks just as efficiently as pool leaks.

Do you work on built-in spas or portable hot tubs?

We focus on built-in spas: in-ground spas, raised spas, and pool-attached spas, which is what most Las Vegas backyards have. We can sometimes help with portable hot tub plumbing leaks but generally don't service hot tub shells or electronics.

What are common causes of spa leaks?

Cracked spa shells, failed jet fittings, leaking heater unions, deteriorated PVC fittings at the equipment pad, and freeze damage on outdoor spas during winter cold snaps. Vegas isn't tropical: desert nights drop into the 20s, and unprotected spa plumbing pays the price.

Can you repair my spa leak the same day you find it?

Most spa leaks at jets, fittings, and heater unions are same-day repairs. Shell cracks and underground plumbing typically require a return visit.

Underground Plumbing

What does underground plumbing leak detection involve?

We pressure-test each pool line individually to identify which one is losing water, then use electronic geophones and tracer gas to pinpoint the leak location before any digging starts.

Will you tear up my yard or deck to find the leak?

No. Locating the leak is non-invasive. Excavation only happens at the exact spot we’ve pinpointed, and only with your approval. The goal is always the smallest possible repair area.

How accurate is the leak location?

Typically within six inches. That keeps the repair excavation tight, the cost down, and the deck or hardscape damage minimal.

Can you repair the underground leak too, or just find it?

Both. We repair underground PVC plumbing leaks in-house. For repairs requiring concrete or pavers to be cut and replaced, we coordinate that work as part of the job rather than handing you off to another contractor.

Why do underground leaks happen so often around here?

Vegas-area soil is rocky and aggressive on PVC, ground movement from heat cycling stresses joints, and a lot of valley pools were built in the late '80s and '90s with plumbing that's now 30+ years old. Underground leaks are common, and almost always fixable.

Equipment, Skimmer & Light

How do I know if my skimmer is leaking?

A leaking skimmer often shows up as water loss that stops at a specific level, usually right at the bottom of the skimmer mouth. You may also see soggy ground or a deck crack near the skimmer. Common fixes are crack repair, plastic skimmer replacement, and reseating.

Can pool lights actually leak?

Yes. The light niche is a wet-side fitting, and the conduit running back to the junction box is a known leak path. Water can travel through the conduit and exit through electrical penetrations elsewhere on the deck. Light niche leaks are one of the more common hidden sources.

What equipment leaks do you repair?

Pump leaks (shaft seals, unions, housings), filter leaks (multiport valves, tank o-rings, drain plugs), heater leaks (manifolds, headers, pressure switches), valve leaks, and plumbing leaks at the equipment pad.

Should I repair my old equipment or replace it?

Depends on the age of the unit, the part that's failing, and the cost gap. We give you both options with honest pricing. We're not working off a quota to push new equipment when a $40 seal will do the job.

My pump is dripping at the seal. Is that urgent?

A dripping shaft seal won't sink your backyard, but it's a sign the seal is on its way out and the motor is at risk if water reaches the bearings. Sooner is cheaper than later. Same logic for unions and housings: small drips become big problems when ignored through a Vegas summer.
