About Pool Leak Repair
What Is Pool Leak Repair?
Pool leak repair is the work of fixing whatever is causing your pool to lose water — once detection has pinpointed the source. Repairs range from a five-minute O-ring replacement to a full plumbing line replacement under your deck. The right repair depends entirely on what kind of leak you have, where it is, and how the pool was originally built.
We're one of the few companies in the area that handles both leak detection AND repair in-house. Most leak detection companies hand off the repair to a separate contractor, who often re-diagnoses the leak (charging for it again) before doing the work. We do the whole job — one team, one invoice, one company accountable.
Common Types of Pool Leaks We Repair
Pool leaks fall into a handful of categories, and each one has its own repair approach.
Plumbing line leaks. Cracks, separations, or holes in the suction lines (skimmer, main drain) or return lines, usually buried under decks or in the equipment pad area. Repair involves locating the failure point, exposing the line, and replacing the damaged section with new PVC.
Shell leaks. Cracks or separations in the plaster, gunite, or fiberglass shell of the pool. Smaller cracks can be repaired with hydraulic cement or specialized epoxy. Larger structural cracks may require shell patching or, in severe cases, replastering.
Skimmer leaks. Cracked skimmer throats, separated weir doors, or failed deck-to-skimmer joints. Skimmer repairs vary from epoxy injection to full skimmer replacement.
Equipment plumbing leaks. Failed unions, cracked PVC, leaking valves, pump shaft seals, filter manifolds, and heater plumbing on the equipment pad. Most of these are straightforward replacements.
Light niche leaks. Failed conduit seals or cracks in the niche allow water to escape into the surrounding wall. Repair involves resealing the conduit or replacing the niche.
Underground plumbing leaks. The most invasive category. We use electronic location to pinpoint the leak before excavating, so we open the smallest hole possible to make the repair.
Our Pool Leak Repair Process
Step 1 — Confirm the diagnosis. If we did the leak detection ourselves, we already know exactly what's wrong. If another company detected the leak, we verify their findings before we start work — this protects you from paying for a repair that doesn't actually fix the problem.
Step 2 — Quote the repair. You get an upfront, all-in price before we touch a tool. No "we'll let you know when we're done" billing. No surprise charges.
Step 3 — Make the repair. We bring the tools, parts, and materials needed for the specific repair. For most jobs we complete the repair the same day.
Step 4 — Test the result. Before we leave, we test the repair under operating conditions — running the equipment, checking for pressure stability, watching the water level — to confirm the leak is fixed.
Repair Methods by Leak Type
Different leaks need different repair methods. Here's how we typically handle each:
- Cracked PVC plumbing: Cut out failed section, install replacement with couplings
- Suction line leak: Excavate, replace failed run, repressure-test
- Shell hairline crack: Underwater epoxy or hydraulic cement
- Major shell crack: Drain partial, V-out crack, structural patch
- Skimmer throat crack: Epoxy injection or skimmer rebuild
- Skimmer-deck separation: Re-bond and seal joint
- Equipment pad leak: Replace failed component (union, valve, manifold)
- Pump shaft seal: Replace seal, gasket, and hardware
- Light niche conduit: Reseal or replace conduit and niche
- Heater plumbing: Replace failed plumbing, test for pressure
Why Detection-Then-Repair in One Visit Matters
When you hire two separate companies — one to detect, one to repair — you pay twice for the same diagnosis, take twice the scheduling time, and risk miscommunication about exactly what's wrong.
When the same crew detects and repairs:
- The diagnosis carries directly into the repair
- We're already on-site with equipment and materials
- You get one written report and one bill
- One company is accountable if anything is wrong
How Long Do Pool Leak Repairs Take?
Most residential pool leak repairs are completed the same day, typically 2–6 hours after detection. Larger repairs involving excavation, structural work, or replastering can take 1–3 days depending on scope.
What Do Pool Leak Repairs Cost?
Repair pricing varies widely based on the type of leak and how much access work is involved. Simple equipment repairs are inexpensive; underground plumbing repairs that require deck removal cost more. We give upfront quotes for every repair, and we tell you what the alternatives are if there are options.
Pool Leak Repair Warranty
We stand behind our repairs. Workmanship warranties vary by repair type — we explain the warranty in writing before we start work, so you know exactly what's covered.
Pool Leak Repair FAQ
Can you repair the leak the same day you find it?
In most cases, yes. We bring detection and repair tools to every job. Same-day repairs are typical for plumbing, equipment, and skimmer leaks. Larger structural repairs may need to be scheduled separately.
Will you have to dig up my deck or yard?
Only when absolutely necessary, and only the smallest area possible. Electronic leak location lets us pinpoint underground leaks before we open the ground, so we don't dig blindly.
Can a pool leak be repaired without draining the pool?
Yes, in most cases. Plumbing repairs, equipment repairs, and many shell repairs can be done with the pool full. Some shell repairs require partial draining.
How long do pool leak repairs last?
A properly executed repair on PVC plumbing typically lasts as long as the pool itself. Shell repairs and skimmer rebuilds vary based on conditions, but quality repair work using the right materials should last many years.
What if the repair doesn't fix the leak?
On the rare occasion a repair doesn't fully resolve water loss, we come back and continue testing. Sometimes pools have multiple leaks, and the smaller second leak only becomes apparent after the larger one is fixed. We don't consider a job done until the pool holds water.
Do you repair leaks on saltwater pools?
Yes. Saltwater pools have the same plumbing, shell construction, and equipment as chlorine pools — repairs are identical.
Do you repair commercial pool leaks?
Yes. We work with apartment complexes, HOAs, hotels, and fitness centers — coordinating with property managers to minimize downtime and meet health code requirements.
