About Spa Leak Repair

What Is Spa Leak Repair?

Spa leak repair is the work of fixing whatever is causing your hot tub, built-in spa, or attached pool/spa to lose water — once detection has located the source. Because spas have higher plumbing density, hotter water, and often different shell materials than pools, repairs require slightly different methods and parts.

We handle both detection and repair in-house, which matters more on a spa than on a pool. Spa leaks are typically urgent — the small water volume means a leak shuts the spa down quickly — and waiting on a separate contractor for repair can mean weeks of equipment exposure that turns a small repair into a big one.

Common Spa Leak Repairs

Cracked acrylic or fiberglass shell repairs. Hairline cracks in molded spa shells can be repaired with two-part epoxy, color-matched repair kits, or shell patching. Larger structural cracks may require professional shell refinishing.

Jet body and jet plumbing leaks. Failed jet gaskets, cracked jet bodies, or leaking plumbing connections behind jets are some of the most common spa leaks. Repair usually involves removing the jet, replacing the gasket or jet body, and re-sealing.

Plumbing connection leaks. Inside the cabinet of a portable spa or behind the access panel of a built-in spa, plumbing unions and PVC connections fail over time from heat cycling. Most are quick replacements.

Pump shaft seal leaks. When a spa pump leaks at the shaft, water drips into the cabinet and onto the equipment pad. Replacement involves a new shaft seal, gasket, and sometimes the impeller.

Heater plumbing leaks. Connections in and out of the spa heater fail from corrosion, scale buildup, and gasket aging. Replacement parts are typically straightforward.

Cabinet plumbing replacement. When older portable spas have multiple plumbing failures inside the cabinet, replacing all the visible plumbing at once is sometimes more cost-effective than chasing leaks one by one.

Spillover and weir leaks (for built-in spas). Cracks at the spillover lip or weir door can be repaired with epoxy, hydraulic cement, or rebuilding the affected section.

Built-in spa shell repairs. Plaster cracks, gunite separations, and tile failures on built-in spas use the same methods as pool repairs — epoxy injection, hydraulic cement, structural patching, or replastering.

Our Spa Leak Repair Process

Step 1 — Confirm the diagnosis. We verify the leak location before we order parts or start work. If we did the detection ourselves, we already have what we need. If detection was done by another company, we re-test to confirm.

Step 2 — Quote upfront. You get the all-in price before we start, with any alternatives clearly explained.

Step 3 — Make the repair. Most spa repairs are completed in one visit. We bring common spa parts (gaskets, unions, seals) to every detection appointment so same-day repair is the norm.

Step 4 — Test under operation. Before we leave, the spa is running, full, and holding water through full cycles.

Repair Methods by Leak Type

  • Acrylic shell hairline crack: Two-part epoxy repair
  • Acrylic shell major crack: Shell patching or professional refinishing
  • Fiberglass shell crack: Fiberglass patch and gel coat
  • Gunite/plaster spa shell crack: Hydraulic cement or epoxy injection
  • Jet body crack: Replace jet body and gasket
  • Jet gasket leak: Replace gasket
  • PVC plumbing union: Tighten or replace union
  • PVC plumbing crack: Cut out and replace section
  • Pump shaft seal: Replace seal, gasket, hardware
  • Heater plumbing leak: Replace failed connection or component
  • Spillover lip crack: Hydraulic cement or epoxy

Cost & Timeline

Most spa repairs are completed in 1 to 4 hours, often the same day as detection. Pricing varies by repair type — gasket and union replacements are inexpensive, while shell repairs and full plumbing replacements cost more. We give upfront quotes for every repair.

Spa Leak Repair Warranty

We warranty our workmanship and clearly explain warranty terms in writing before we start. Manufacturer warranties on parts (jets, pumps, heaters) carry their own terms, which we pass along.

Spa Leak Repair FAQ

Can you repair a cracked acrylic shell?

Yes — most acrylic cracks are repairable with two-part epoxy or shell repair compounds. Repair quality depends on the size, location, and depth of the crack.

My hot tub jets leak when running. Can you fix that?

Yes. Jet leaks are one of the most common spa repairs. Usually it's a failed gasket, occasionally a cracked jet body. Same-day repair is typical.

Is my spa worth repairing?

For most spa leaks, repair is significantly cheaper than replacement. We give you an honest assessment — if a spa is at end-of-life and repairs aren't worth it, we tell you.

Will the repair last?

Quality spa repairs using the right parts and proper techniques last for years. We use only manufacturer-spec replacement parts and stand behind our work.

Can you repair leaks on a spa attached to a pool?

Yes. Pool/spa combos are common, and we handle both systems.

Do you do warranty work for spa manufacturers?

Not directly — manufacturer warranties usually require their authorized service network. But many of our customers come to us when their warranty has expired and they need ongoing service.

How fast can you come out?

Spa repairs are scheduled quickly because of equipment risk. Typically the same week, often within 1–2 days.
